Editing your website
Changing words, pictures, colours, menus and pages.
The basics
- How do I change something on my website?Open Your website and type what you'd like changed in the box, in your own words, like “make the headline warmer”. Or click Edit to change words, photos and sections yourself, free.
- How do I undo a change?Click Undo under the change in the chat, or open History above your site and click Restore next to any earlier version. Nothing is ever lost.
- What does each part of the editor do?Your website screen has your site on the left and the site assistant on the right. Above your site: a page picker, Edit, History, Point at, phone and computer views, and a button to open it in a new tab. On the right, you type what you'd like changed.
- How should I word a change so it comes out right?Say which page, which part, and exactly what you want, one change at a time: “On the Fees page, change the session fee to $190 for 50 minutes.” Quote the exact words you see when you want them changed, and say what to keep.
- How many changes can I make?25 changes a day in your first week, then 10 a day. Only changes that are actually made count. Questions, Edit, Undo and changes that didn't work are free.
Common changes
- How do I write a blog post?Open Blog in your dashboard and click Write a post. Add a title, write or paste your post, and click Publish. It goes on your website's blog straight away, or on your guide if you keep your own website.
- How do I change photos, my logo or colours?Use the paperclip in Your website to add your own photo, or describe the picture you'd like and we'll create one. Your logo and colours are on the branding step in Launch, and headshots are in Your clinicians.
- How do I add a new specialty or service?Open Your website and ask, for example: “Add grief counseling to what I help with.” It's added to your menu and lists, and gets its own page. Add a sentence or two about how you work with it, so the page sounds like you.
- How do I change the order of my menu?Ask in Your website, naming the item and where it should go: “In the What I help with menu, move immigration evaluations to the bottom.” The menu and the lists on your pages follow the new order.
- Can my website say “we” instead of “I”?Yes. Ask in Your website: “Write the whole site as we, not I.” Every page changes to match, and new pages follow it too. You can switch back the same way.
- How do I add more details or links to a page?Ask in Your website, one item at a time, and paste the full web address of any link: “On the Fees page, add that I offer reduced rates through Open Path Collective: https://openpathcollective.org.” Web addresses become clickable.
- Examples of changes you can ask forAlmost anything on your site can be changed by asking: words, your headline, fees and insurance, what you help with, the areas you serve, booking buttons, colours, fonts, sections, pictures and links. Here are examples that work well, to copy and adapt.
- How do I change my headline or what Google shows?Ask in Your website: “Change the headline to …”, “Change the page title Google shows to …” or “Change the line under the headline to …”. Keep what you help with and where you are in them: those words are what Google reads first.
- What can I change about how my site looks?Colours and fonts change across your whole site. Your home and About pages, header and footer can be rearranged freely: sections added, moved or removed. Your other pages, like each specialty page and Fees, share one tidy layout, and you can change all their words.
When something isn't right
- My website says something that isn't right. What do I do?Fix wording straight away with Edit, or ask in Your website: “Remove the line saying I take Medicaid; I don't.” For a picture that doesn't fit, ask for a different one. If something keeps coming back, tell us through Support.
- My change didn't work, or changed the wrong thing. What now?Click Undo under the change, then try again more precisely: use Point at to show the exact part, and quote the words you see. If it still won't work, tell the assistant “that didn't work” to get the change back, and send it to us through Support.
- What won't the assistant do, and why?The assistant does what you ask, even if it may cost you in search: it says so, and Undo puts it back. Off limits, to protect you and your clients: client testimonials, made-up facts, credentials or results, made-up photos of people, and a form that sends client messages through us.
