You are choosing between two do-it-yourself website builders for a therapy practice. The useful comparison starts with being found on Google and in AI answers, then the site clients see, the first-year cost, and how hard it is to keep details current.
This comparison is for licensed therapists, counselors, and psychologists in private practice in the US. It does not cover EHR websites, group-practice software, or hiring a designer to build a custom site.
Squarespace vs Wix: what is the difference for a therapy practice?
For a therapy practice, Squarespace is usually better if you want a site-wide design system and AI Visibility; Wix is usually better if you want a Free plan, 2,000+ templates, and scheduling and services starting with Core.12
Squarespace describes an AI website builder, templates, a drag-and-drop editor, and a design system for fonts, colors, buttons, and spacing across the site.1 Wix describes a Free plan, AI creation tools, 2,000+ templates, a drag-and-drop editor, and no-code design features.2
Google says search engine optimization means “helping search engines understand your content, and helping users find your site and make a decision about whether they should visit your site through a search engine.”6 For a therapist, that means a page for anxiety therapy, a page for couples therapy, a page for your city or state if you serve it, and clear details on fees, insurance, licensure, and availability.
Is Wix good for SEO, and is Squarespace good for SEO?
Squarespace describes SEO tools and AI Visibility, while Wix describes built-in marketing and SEO tools.12 Neither pricing page describes Google listing or directory profile work.
Squarespace says its website tools include SEO tools and AI Visibility, with AI Visibility showing whether a business is mentioned in AI answers and how visibility changes over time.1 Wix says its paid plans include marketing suites, and its pricing page describes a “complete suite of built-in marketing and SEO tools.”2
For local search, the website is only one signal. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking.3 Google Business Profile, the free listing that can show in Google Maps and local results, also has rules: the business name, address or service area, hours, and category should represent the business accurately.7
“Online reviews and ratings are used by some service users to inform choice of provider or treatment while providers tend to be concerned about the validity and representativeness of feedback.”
In Daylight’s October 2026 scan of 227 US therapy practices, 84.6% had a Google Business Profile we could find, 40.5% were found on Psychology Today by our directory search, and 76.2% showed the same name, phone and address across the web.4 Because the sample comes from Google’s first two pages, it leans toward practices that are already easier to find than average.4
Figure 1. Therapy practice websites that pass key visibility checks
Show the numbers
| Practices passing the check (% of practices) | |
|---|---|
| Structured data for practice | 73.5% |
| Separate page for each condition | 70.5% |
| Separate page for each area served | 69.2% |
| Town or area in page title | 68.5% |
| Fast on a phone | 34.3% |
| FAQ marked up as structured data | 9.6% |
Structured data is code that describes your practice in a way search engines and AI assistants can read. In the same October 2026 scan, 73.5% of therapy practice websites described the practice in structured data, but only 9.6% marked up their FAQ as structured data.4 That gap matters if you want search tools and AI assistants to understand clear answers on fees, insurance, telehealth, and who you help.
A practical SEO rule for either platform
- Make one page for each main concern you treat, such as anxiety, trauma, couples counseling, or grief.
- Make one page for each area or state you serve if you see clients there and your license allows it.
- Use page titles that name the concern and place, such as “Anxiety therapy in Austin, TX.”
- Keep your name, phone, address or service area, license states, fees, and insurance language consistent across your website, Google Business Profile, and directory profiles.
- Check your licensing board rules before using testimonials, specialty claims, or telehealth wording across state lines.
What will clients see on Squarespace and Wix?
Squarespace emphasizes a site-wide design system and AI-assisted website design, while Wix emphasizes template choice, no-code design features, and customization from a template or prompt.129
Squarespace says its AI website builder can create a personalized website from a business description, and that fonts, colors, buttons, and spacing can be updated across the site from one design system.1 For a solo LCSW in Austin who treats anxiety and burnout, that can help keep service pages, the About page, and the contact page visually consistent.
“Drag, drop, resize, and arrange content on the responsive grid, no code needed.”
Wix says users can create a site from a prompt or choose a free template, and its pricing page states that every plan has AI creation tools, hosting, and 24/7 customer care.2 Its template page says there are website templates by type, industry, and collection, with health and wellness included as an industry category.9
Wix’s template page lists a Massage Therapist template with the Wix Bookings app and a warm design for services.9 The template page doesn’t list one made for psychotherapists, counselors or psychologists.
Online health resources can create frustration, overwhelm, and confusion for people with serious mental illness.10 That finding is not about therapy website builders, but it is a useful reminder that a calm, simple website is more than a design preference.
For a therapy practice, the first screen should quickly answer who you help, where you work, how to contact you, and whether the next step is a consultation, a secure form, a call, or an email.
Wix vs Squarespace pricing for therapists
Squarespace lists Basic at $19/month monthly or $12/month annually, Core at $27/month monthly or $17/month annually, and Advanced at $36/month monthly or $25/month annually; Wix lists Free, Light at $17/month, Core at $29/month, Business at $39/month, and Business Elite at $159/month, with displayed prices for yearly subscriptions paid in full.52
Squarespace’s pricing page lists three website plans: Basic, Core, and Advanced.5 It states that Squarespace is free for 14 days and that annual payment can save up to 36%.5 Basic includes up to 2 contributors, while Core and Advanced include unlimited contributors.5
Wix’s pricing page lists a Free plan with no credit card required, plus Light, Core, Business, and Business Elite.2 Wix states that displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase, and that prices and currency vary by location.2
Figure 2. First-year cost from published annual-billing plan prices
Show the numbers
| Squarespace ($ per first year) | Wix ($ per first year) | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry paid | $144 | $204 |
| Middle paid | $204 | $348 |
| Higher paid | $300 | $468 |
| Plan level | Squarespace | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Free or trial | 14-day free trial.5 | Free plan, no credit card required.2 |
| Lowest nonfree | Basic: $19/mo monthly or $12/mo annually.5 | Light: $17/mo, yearly subscription price shown.2 |
| Middle paid | Core: $27/mo monthly or $17/mo annually.5 | Core: $29/mo, yearly subscription price shown.2 |
| Higher paid | Advanced: $36/mo monthly or $25/mo annually.5 | Business: $39/mo, yearly subscription price shown.2 |
| Highest listed | Advanced: $36/mo monthly or $25/mo annually.5 | Business Elite: $159/mo, yearly subscription price shown.2 |
| Taking payments | Basic has a 2% online store transaction fee; Core and Advanced list 0%.5 | Core, Business, and Business Elite list “Accept payments.”2 |
| Scheduling | Not stated on their site | Core, Business, and Business Elite list scheduling and services.2 |
| Storage | Not stated on their site | Light 2 GB, Core 50 GB, Business 100 GB, Business Elite unlimited.2 |
For a therapy practice, the cheapest plan is not always the cheapest workable setup. If you need online booking on the same site, Wix’s pricing page lists scheduling and services starting with Core.2 If you use a separate EHR or secure scheduling form, confirm privacy and advertising rules with your own counsel or board.
Which is easier to change, Squarespace or Wix?
Squarespace states that users can edit directly with a drag-and-drop responsive grid, while Wix states that users can use an intuitive drag-and-drop editor and no-code design features.12
Squarespace says users can start with an AI-built site or a designer template, review personalized pages and styles, and then make it theirs with a drag-and-drop editor.1 It also says users can ask the AI assistant questions, request changes, and keep working in one place.1
Wix says users can create a site from a single prompt and move between AI generation and drag-and-drop editing.2 Its pricing page also states that all plans include reliable web hosting, AI creation tools, and 24/7 customer care.2
- Write the change in plain language. Use a sentence like “Add a fees page,” “Change my main service to trauma therapy,” or “Remove evening availability.” This keeps the task tied to what a client needs to know.
- Check the phone view. Some clients will visit on a phone. Look for cut-off headings, buttons too far down the page, and contact links that require too many taps.
- Check the search result wording. After changing a service page, update the page title and search description so they still name the concern and the area.
- Check the same fact everywhere. If you change your fee, insurance, address, telehealth state, or availability, update your website, Google Business Profile, and directory profiles in the same sitting.
The work that tends to be missed is not the button click. It is remembering every place where the old fact appears. In Daylight’s October 2026 scan of 227 US therapy practices, only 11.4% of practice websites said whether they were accepting new clients, and only 5.5% said how quickly they reply to enquiries.4
Who should choose Squarespace, and who should choose Wix?
Choose Squarespace if a site-wide design system and named AI Visibility matter more; choose Wix if a Free plan, many templates, and built-in scheduling starting with Core matter more.129
Choose Squarespace if
- You want a site-wide design system for fonts, colors, buttons, and spacing across pages.1
- You want a website builder page that specifically names AI Visibility and says it shows whether your business is mentioned in AI answers.1
- You want an annual website plan that includes one year of registration for an available domain on Squarespace’s cheapest pricing tier, subject to the offer terms.5
- You expect a collaborator or designer to help, and you want Core or Advanced to allow unlimited contributors.5
Choose Wix if
- You want to start on a Free plan with no credit card required, then choose a paid plan later.2
- You want a large template library, since Wix states it offers 2,000+ templates.2
- You want scheduling and services listed on the pricing page starting with Core.2
- You want storage tiers stated on the pricing page, from 2 GB on Light to unlimited storage on Business Elite.2
Builder choice does not complete the service-page, Google listing, or directory profile work that helps a therapy practice get found. Treat Squarespace or Wix as the website layer, then keep the outside facts current.
Where Daylight fits
Daylight is not a Squarespace or Wix side in this comparison; it helps with the search and AI visibility work around a therapy website, including Google, directories, and AI answers.111213
If you already use Squarespace or Wix and want to keep it, Daylight can write page titles, wording, and new pages for you to paste in, while still checking your Google listing, directories, and AI answers every month.15 You can start with a free report on how your practice shows up online.
If you want a new site instead, Daylight builds, hosts, and keeps it updated, and the site is planned around the searches people near you use, your Google listing, directory profiles, and what AI assistants say about a practice like yours.1115 The steps are outlined in How Daylight works.
Daylight’s Google listing help covers the description, categories, and services, and its directory help shows found profiles, what is missing, and links to fix them.1213 Its US price is $5 for the first month, then $39/month, with the same price for both plans.14 See Daylight pricing.

How we researched this
We compared Squarespace and Wix using only their own pages for features, plan names, pricing, design claims, support claims, SEO claims, templates, scheduling, storage, collaborators, and free trials. Prices are dated October 2026. For Squarespace, we used both monthly and annual prices where the pricing page states both. For Wix, we used the displayed yearly-subscription monthly prices and excluded the temporary sale figures shown beside some plans. First-year totals equal the displayed annual-billing monthly rate multiplied by 12 and exclude taxes, domains after any first-year offer, paid email, transaction fees, booking software outside the plan, and any add-ons. For search and local visibility, we used Google’s own guidance, peer-reviewed research on online feedback and health information use, and Daylight’s October 2026 scan of 227 US therapy practices.
This comparison is written by Daylight, which offers a related service and appears in it once as a third option. Every fact about Squarespace and Wix links to the page of theirs it comes from. If something here is out of date or wrong, write to hello@dylt.ai and we'll correct it.
