How do I claim or verify my Google listing?

Updated October 12, 2026

The short answer

Find your practice on Google Maps, click Claim this business (or Own this business?), then Manage now, and verify the way Google offers: usually a call, a text or a short video. Only an owner can make changes or add us, so this comes first.

Is it claimed?

Search your practice's name on Google while signed in to your Google account. If you see your listing with options to edit it, it's claimed by you. If you see Claim this business or Own this business?, nobody has claimed it yet.

Claiming it

  1. Find your listing on Google Maps.
  2. Click Claim this business (or Own this business?), then Manage now.
  3. Sign in with the Google account you want to own it. Use one you'll keep, like your practice's main Google account.
  4. Verify the way Google offers: usually a phone call, a text or a short video of your office. Sometimes a postcard. It can take a few days.

Someone else already owns it

Often it's an old web designer, an agency or a former colleague. Ask them to add you as an Owner. If you can't reach them, Google lets you request access when you try to claim it; the current owner is asked, and if they don't reply, Google may let you claim it after about a week.
