Our storyA letter from the founders

Why we built Daylight.

From one group of small business owners to another.

We run small businesses ourselves.

We know the job is never just the job. There’s the work you’re good at, and then there’s everything around it: the phone, the books, the website you set up years ago and haven’t looked at since. Getting found online usually lands at the bottom of that list, because it has to.

Over the last couple of years we watched the way people find a business change, and it changed quickly.

People used to search on Google, scroll through the results and call a few places. Now a lot of them ask ChatGPT, or read the answer Google writes at the top of the page, and go with one of the two or three names they’re given. They check a directory, glance at the reviews, open your website on their phone, and decide in about a minute whether you’re the one.

We felt that in our own businesses before we could explain it. So we started paying attention. We read everything we could find, tried things on our own websites and listings, and kept track of what made a difference and what didn’t. We’re still learning. It keeps changing, so we keep at it.

What we found was a long list of small things. A website that says plainly what you do and where. A Google listing that’s filled in properly. The same details on every directory people check. Pages written so an AI assistant can understand them and pass them on. None of it is hard on its own. Together it’s a lot, and most of it is invisible until it’s missing.

When we did that work for our own businesses, it showed. We were easier to find, and more of the right people found us. It helped us grow.

That’s also when it started to bother us.

The owners who need this most are the ones with the least time for it. The therapist with back-to-back sessions. The cleaner who’s on a job from morning to evening. The shop where one person does everything. Nobody should have to become an expert in search engines to be found by the people already looking for them.

You shouldn’t need to understand how search works to be found by the people looking for you.

So we built Daylight. It looks at what people see when they search for your business, then does the work we learned to do for ourselves: a website made to be found, your Google listing, the fixes for your directory profiles, and the way AI assistants describe you. Every month it checks again, because none of this stands still.

We made it simple on purpose. You see your report and your new website before you pay anything, and nothing goes live until you say so. You shouldn’t need to be technical, and you shouldn’t need to hand it to an agency and hope.

We’ve been where you are, and we know what it means when the right person finds you, and what it costs when they don’t. That’s why we’re doing this.

If you have a question, or just want to tell us what you’re running into, write to us at hello@dylt.ai. It comes straight to us.

Warmly,

The Daylight founders
