# How do I write a blog post?

Source: https://dylt.ai/help/writing-a-blog-post (updated 2026-10-26)

Open Blog in your dashboard and click Write a post. Add a title, write or paste your post, and click Publish. It goes on your website's blog straight away, or on your guide if you keep your own website.

## Write and publish a post

Not ready yet? Click **Save draft**. Drafts stay in your dashboard and aren't on your site until you publish them. We also save your draft every so often while you write, and you can press **Cmd+S** (or **Ctrl+S**) to save it yourself.

1. Click **Blog** in the menu, then **Write a post**.
2. Type a title, then write your post. You can paste from Word or Google Docs: headings, bold, italics, lists and links come with it.
3. Use the toolbar for **headings**, **bold**, *italics*, **lists**, a **quote** or a **link**.
4. Add a cover photo if you'd like one. It's optional.
5. Click **Preview** to see the post exactly as it will look on your site.
6. Click **Publish**. The post is on your site straight away, with a **Blog** link in your menu once you have a post.

## Add a picture, video or divider

1. Click in your post where it should go.
2. **Picture:** click **Picture** in the toolbar and choose a photo from your computer. Then describe what it shows in a few words, for people using screen readers and for Google. Click the picture later to change that description or remove it.
3. **Video:** click **Video** and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link. The video plays right in your post.
4. **Divider:** click **Divider** to put a thin line between parts of your post.

## How your post shows up in Google

Under **Search & sharing** you can see how your post will look in Google results. Everything there is optional: we fill it in for you if you leave it blank.

- **Address:** the end of the post's web address. You can change it until you publish; after that it stays the same, so links to the post keep working.
- **Search title:** the title Google shows, if you want it different from your headline.
- **Summary:** the short description shown in Google and when the post is shared.

Good to know: Wrote this post a while ago, maybe for another site? Set **Date** to the day it was first written. Leave it blank and the post is dated the day you publish it.

## Edit, unpublish or delete a post

Every publish is saved in [History](https://dylt.ai/help/undo-and-history), like other changes to your site, so you can put an earlier version back.

1. Click **Blog**, then **Edit** next to the post.
2. Make your changes and click **Update post**.
3. To take it off your site but keep it, click **Unpublish**. To remove it for good, click **Delete post**.

## Where your posts appear

- **If we host your website:** on your site's blog, at yourpractice.com/blog.
- **If you keep your own website:** on your guide, at guide.yourpractice.com/blog, beside your site. Your own website doesn't change.
- **Posts from your old site** that we brought over when your site went live are listed too, and you can edit them the same way.

## Common questions

**What should I write about?** What clients ask you about: a condition you treat, what a first session is like, how your approach works. Posts like these bring people to your site from search, and help them feel they know you before they reach out.

**Who is shown as the writer?** Choose under **Written by**: any clinician on your site, or your practice.

**What's the summary for?** It's the short description shown in Google results and when a post is shared. Leave it blank and we use the first lines of your post.
